Paul McCartney has expanded his chart-topping solo album The Boys of Dungeon Lane with the release of a new Special Edition featuring four additional songs. The updated record is available digitally now, with physical editions scheduled to follow on December 9.

Special Edition Tracklist and Ringo Starr Collaboration

The newly expanded album includes an alternate version of 'Home To Us', the tender duet that initially marked a solo collaboration between McCartney and his former Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr. In the newly revealed 'Flip Mix', the vocal parts are swapped, allowing listeners to hear McCartney tackle the sections originally performed by Starr.

Alongside the reimagined duet, the Special Edition features three previously unreleased tracks written during the original album sessions: 'City Fox', 'One Night Stand', and 'Chelsea Boots'. The physical releases on December 9 will include a limited edition two-LP orange and blue marble vinyl complete with a zoetrope etching and fresh artwork adapted from a silkscreened collage by Kate Gibb.

Creation of The Boys of Dungeon Lane

The Boys of Dungeon Lane originally arrived in May as McCartney’s first solo release since 2020’s McCartney III. The 14-track record featured personal reflections on the musician's childhood in Liverpool, his parents' resilience, and early experiences alongside George Harrison and John Lennon before global fame. The album topped global charts and earned a shortlist spot as one of the 12 Albums of the Year for the 2026 Mercury Prize.

Discussing the creative process behind the project, McCartney credited a meeting with producer Andrew Watt arranged by his manager. Explaining the origins of the collaboration on Instagram, McCartney described working together like a couple of children in a sandpit. To support the release of the new Special Edition, McCartney recently made a guest appearance during Jimmy Kimmel Live!'s Brooklyn week.

Reflecting on Career and Live Performance

The original release of the album received a four-star review and marked a milestone arrival 63 years after the debut of The Beatles. In interviews surrounding the project, McCartney addressed persistent questions regarding potential retirement, noting that he never knows what the future holds and continues to perform live because opportunities to hear music from his era in person are increasingly rare.

McCartney emphasized that the core satisfaction of songwriting remains entirely unchanged from his youth. Reflecting on his unexpected path from school days—when he worried a lack of qualifications might leave teaching as his only option—the 83-year-old music icon stated that successfully crafting a melody still brings the exact same magic it always did.

Physical formats of the Special Edition, featuring more than 100 images from McCartney’s personal collection in its updated artwork, will arrive for fans in December.
