American Pickers Alum Frank Fritz's Loved Ones Head to Trial for $6M Estate Battle
Two years after the passing of American Pickers star Frank Fritz, his father and close friends are heading to a jury trial over his $6 million estate.

The father and close friends of late American Pickers star Frank Fritz are heading to a jury trial in Iowa following a bitter dispute over his estimated $6 million estate. The upcoming court battle arrives two years after the beloved reality television personality passed away in September 2024 at the age of his later years, following complications from a stroke he suffered in July 2022 that left him partially paralyzed.
Mediation Fails to Resolve Estate Dispute
Legal proceedings for the Frank Fritz estate are set for a November jury trial after the involved parties failed to reach any resolution during mediation sessions. According to an insider close to the situation, mediation talks completely broke down without an agreement. Bill Fritz, the father of the late television collector, reportedly wants to claim the entirety of the estate for himself, setting the stage for a contentious courtroom showdown in front of a judge and jury.
Contesting the Will and Prior Health Status
The legal friction centers around a will that Frank Fritz filed in October 2023, roughly a year after his debilitating stroke. Although an Iowa judge initially approved the document weeks after his passing in September 2024, his biological father Bill formally contested the will in February 2025. Court documents from earlier filings indicate that Bill alleged his son lacked the decision-making capacity required to manage or communicate financial decisions due to his impaired health following the stroke.
Friends Defend Loyalty and Last Wishes
Conversely, those close to Frank Fritz during his final years maintain that the contested will accurately reflects his true intentions. Annette Oberlander Willows, a close friend who stood by his side when he died, stated that she always remained loyal throughout their friendship. She asserted that the television star did not want his father to inherit his belongings, and expressed confidence that a trial will ensure his actual wishes are properly honored. Bill Fritz and his legal representatives did not respond to requests for comment regarding the trial.
Fortune and Reality Television Legacy
The contested estate is valued at approximately $6 million, according to reports from the Des Moines Register. This substantial fortune includes a valuable motorcycle collection, his Iowa farmhouse valued at $155,000, rare antiques accumulated over decades of collecting, and earnings from his time on television. Frank Fritz famously appeared alongside Mike Wolfe and Danielle Colby on American Pickers from 2010 until his departure in 2020 to undergo back surgery, prior to his official termination from the History Channel hit series in 2021.
The upcoming November jury trial will ultimately determine how the valuable collection and remaining assets of the late reality star are distributed among the competing claimants.
