A former nanny and housekeeper for the Gosselin family has stepped forward with claims that she witnessed Kate Gosselin physically and psychologically abuse her son Collin. The former staff member, identified as Ashley H., spoke out in an interview published on Friday, October 23, alleging that the reality television environment contrasted sharply with what viewers saw on air. Ashley worked part-time for the family in 2013 while pursuing her master’s degree in social work.

Nanny Alleges Physical Abuse and Differential Treatment

Ashley claimed that Kate outwardly treated Collin differently from his siblings during the time she worked in the household. Describing the dynamic, the former nanny stated that it was difficult to put into words the specific animosity she observed directed toward him. According to Ashley, she witnessed Kate physically grab Collin on numerous occasions, alleging that the mother often yanked him by the ear and pulled him straight out of his chair in the kitchen.

These assertions mirror claims made by Collin himself in his published memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality. In the book, Collin previously alleged that his mother subjected him to similar physical treatment during his upbringing. The TLC series, originally titled Jon & Kate Plus 8, followed Kate and her former husband, Jon Gosselin, as they raised their sextuplets—Collin, Hannah, Aaden, Joel, Alexis and Leah—alongside older twins Mady and Cara, before continuing as Kate Plus 8 following the couple's 2009 divorce.

Strict Household Rules and Reports to Authorities

Reflecting on the domestic atmosphere, Ashley described the household as heavily restricted and lacking in warmth. She alleged that Kate made it explicitly known who her favorites were and who she found annoying, creating an environment that she characterized as unloving. The former nanny recounted feeling deeply unsettled by household items and overall conditions, noting that the situation weighed heavily on her mental well-being while she was employed there.

Before leaving her position, Ashley stated that she contacted Children and Youth Services to report her concerns about what she had witnessed inside the home. Collin has similarly written that his father, Jon, possesses documentation regarding multiple complaints made to youth services over the years. Ashley emphasized that she wanted to use her platform to back Collin's accounts of psychological and physical mistreatment.

Prior Denials and Ongoing Public Response

Kate has consistently denied all allegations of abuse brought against her by her son. When previous claims surfaced, her attorney, Richard Puleo, defended her actions to the media, stating in 2024 that he did not believe the former television star intended to harm her son. Her legal representation previously maintained that her actions were intended to protect her family, while Kate has also pointed publicly to the challenges of navigating family struggles involving mental health issues. The ongoing disclosures continue to draw public attention to the fractured dynamics of the former reality television family years after their show concluded.

The surfacing of new corroborating accounts from former household staff brings renewed attention to the long-standing disputes within the Gosselin family. As both public statements and personal memoirs continue to reveal conflicting perspectives on the children's upbringing, the documented history of administrative complaints and family discord remains a central focus for followers of the former television personalities.
