Actor Neena Gupta is currently celebrating her latest project, the comedy series Chumbak, which explores the lives of five couples residing together in a residential colony. In a recent conversation regarding the series, the veteran star opened up about the elements that immediately drew her to the script and her character.

Immediate Yes To The Script

When directors and producers JD and Aatish Kapadia narrated the story, Neena Gupta knew instantly that she wanted to be part of the project. She explained that she agreed to the role right away because she loved both the character and the unique premise of five couples living in the same colony together.

The actor noted that she has always appreciated performing in comedic projects. Working alongside creators known for celebrated comedies like Khichdi and Sarabhai vs Sarabhai presented a wonderful professional opportunity that she was eager to take on.

Balancing Marriage and Independence

Discussing the specifics of her role, Neena Gupta highlighted how her character navigates a delicate life balance. The woman she portrays is caught between caring for her unwell spouse and maintaining her own personal independence and aspirations.

She clarified that the character is not rebellious, but rather wants to continue looking after her husband while still carving out space for her own life. She believes this particular approach to relationship management has not been widely explored in this manner before.

Friendly Atmosphere On Set

Filming for the series proved to be a memorable experience for the actor, who described the general atmosphere on set as remarkably friendly. She shared that the cast developed close bonds and spent a significant amount of time together during production.

Instead of retreating to separate vanity vans during breaks, the actors routinely shared lunches and enjoyed constant interactions. She mentioned that the younger cast members were particularly kind, and the group continues to stay in touch through messaging apps while missing the daily camaraderie.

Tackling Social Issues Through Comedy

Beyond her individual storyline, Neena Gupta pointed out that the show features a variety of relationship dynamics through the other couples living in the colony. The series also addresses contemporary concerns, such as challenges involving children, using a light-hearted comedic lens.

According to the actor, the narrative successfully weaves important hidden messages into its comedic format, making it relevant for modern audiences. She also praised co-star Helly Shah for a commendable performance and credited the directing style for allowing actors to fully inhabit their roles.

The collaborative environment and strong belief among the cast helped shape the distinct tone of the comedy series, leaving the actors with lasting positive memories of their time together on production.
