Rashami Desai has returned to television in the Star Plus romantic family drama Sayonee following an absence of several years from daily soaps. In a recent interview, the actor reflected on her time away from the small screen, the professional challenges she encountered, and the industry judgements that influenced her choices.

Taking Time Off and Working on Craft

During her multi-year break from daily television, Rashami Desai focused on personal development and expanding her portfolio. She explained that she often steps away from television for three to four years following a major project. While she did receive television scripts during her hiatus, she felt she could not connect with the characters or simply did not feel ready to return at that moment.

Instead of taking up daily soaps, she explored different mediums. Her work during this period included a Gujarati film and the Zee5 project Hisaab Barabar. The actor also dedicated significant time to attending workshops, noting that she wanted to unlearn established habits and work closely on improving her craft.

Facing Criticism and Industry Stereotypes

Reflecting on her career trajectory, Rashami Desai addressed the negative comments and limitations imposed by industry peers. She recalled being told by individuals that she was an overexposed face and that her television career had concluded. Furthermore, she faced professional underestimation because she is a woman and noted a persistent tendency to generalize television actors.

The actor criticized the practice of portraying female performers primarily as objects on screen, emphasizing that women in the industry are significantly more than their glamour or physical appearance. She stated that female actors have been stereotyped for too long and deserve proper recognition for their dedication and hard work rather than being viewed through a purely superficial lens.

Addressing Social Media and Online Abuse

Beyond television sets, Rashami Desai discussed the impact of digital hostility and social media scrutiny. She revealed that she stopped reading online comments entirely over a period of three and a half months, expressing a belief that certain negative remarks and trolling campaigns are paid operations.

The actor emphasized that online abuse requires strict boundaries, pointing out that unchecked digital harassment has driven individuals to severe distress. Despite the obstacles and discouraging remarks from critics, she maintained confidence in her own acting abilities and stated that she still has much more to achieve.

The actor's return to the small screen marks a new chapter with Sayonee. Produced by Ravi Dubey and Sargun Mehta under Dreamiyata Entertainment, the romantic family drama serves as an official remake of a Malayalam television series and features a cast that includes Ajay Chaudhary, Jahnavi Soni, and Gautam Vig alongside Rashami Desai.
